Dr. Gerald & Frances Mitchum
Who We Are
In the early 1990’s Mongolia was reeling from the failed Soviet system and the departure of the Russians. In 1994, Dr. Gerald Mitchum went with five other veterinarians to Mongolia on a survey trip. He returned with a heart to reach out to these people with the gospel of Jesus Christ through assisting the veterinarians and their herder clients. He and his wife, Frances, returned to live in Mongolia in 1995 to help develop the work of CVM which is now a national NGO called Mongolia V.E.T. Net.
Our Work
The primary ministries of V.E.T. Net are through continuing educations to remote veterinarians and herders, university outreach, a small and large animal clinic/training center, and community development projects to rural students and their families. All of these activities offer opportunities to share the gospel and build into the lives of nationals. Approximately 40 rural sustainable churches have developed as a result of this work.
Our Partner
CVM is partnered with Mongolia V.E.T. Net, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that focuses on sharing Christ with all of Mongolia through veterinary medicine and education. V.E.T. Net has diligently chosen to work through the entire nation county by county to reach the Mongolian people for Christ.
The Mitchums serve alongside CVM Fieldworkers: Dr. Mary and Richard Ballenger, Dr. Hillary and Michael Mincher, and Drs. John and Laurie Day, and Lenore Thorne.
Tend My Sheep: A Veterinarian in Mongolia
The compelling story of the Mitchum’s 25 years of faithful service to the Lord among the proud and rugged people in the land of Genghis Khan. Working through Christian Veterinary Mission, Dr. Mitchum’s teams established an indigenous veterinary organization called V.E.T. Net, provided essential veterinary and humanitarian services to the herdsmen and their families, and spread Christianity to the remotest regions of Mongolia. Dr. Mitchum’s story is filled with personal reflections, spiritual insights, and powerful Christian testimonies.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah 6:8, NIV
