Why CVM?

Veterinary professionals are uniquely equipped to reach people around the world who have never heard the good news of Jesus Christ. Most unreached people live in rural or nomadic communities where livestock play a central role in their livelihood by providing income, nutrition and labor. A chicken lays eggs which can be sold for grocery money. Goats provide a protein-rich milk to nourish growing children. A donkey plays the role of transportation and brings goods to market to sell. A herd of cows may serve as a retirement fund. When these animals are in poor health, are weak, plagued with disease or die, it drastically impacts the lives of their owners.

A healthy animal can literally make the difference between life and death for an entire family. Veterinary professionals are invited into these communities to provide training in basic animal health, nutrition, first aid and disease prevention. Families are empowered to take their futures into their own hands without having to become dependent on outside help or expertise.

Animals are an important bridge to relationships in any culture. Whether treating a puppy in urban America or a camel in rural Ethiopia, veterinary professionals build relationships with people whose animals they are caring for. In communities where a traditional missionary would not be welcome, someone with veterinary skills is invited in to share their professional expertise. As relationships of trust are built, opportunities are created to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
