Long-Term Missions

How it Works

CVM’s desire is to challenge, empower, and facilitate veterinary professions to serve others as they obey Jesus’ instruction to make disciples of all nations.  Long-term cross-cultural ministry is achieved through God’s leading and in collaboration with your sending church, CVM, and a host organization on the field.

If you would like CVM to walk alongside you on the journey of exploring long-term missions, here are a few places to start:

Go on a Short-Term Trip

Participating in a short-term trip will give you an idea of what it is like to serve in the field, visit a possible location, meet other current field staff, and see where God might be leading you to serve. It is a great way to prepare for serving long-term.

Connect with a Current CVM Field Worker

A great way to prepare for serving long-term is to partner with current field workers by signing up to receive their Prayer Letters. Reading about their ministry, work, and lives in the field will give you an idea of what to expect while serving. It’s also a great way to partner in ministry through prayer!

Join us for Short Course

Our annual missions conference is a great place to learn more about cross-cultural missions in general and working together with CVM.  Topics include veterinary ministry models and current opportunities, budgeting and support raising, member care, and preparing for training in cross-cultural ministry.

Chat with a CVM Staff Member about Long-Term Opportunities

Have questions about serving long-term? Chat with one of our staff members about serving and explore some of the current opportunities for long-term veterinary missions. Contact us at longterm@cvm.org.

Our long-term application process begins with collecting information from you, from references, and about the ministry location where you will potentially be serving.  Once this information is gathered and you are provisionally approved for service, you will complete medical and psychological evaluations and then begin raising the support and prayer team necessary for your future ministry plans with CVM.  Field work will begin once this ministry support team is in place, and you have completed the necessary pre-field training.  This whole process takes on average 1-2 years.

To begin the discussion with us about serving long-term overseas, please complete our Ministry Engagement Form to get the process started.
