Maddie's Baptism
Note: CVM seeks to honor God in celebrating this student's decision to be baptized. As an interdenominational organization, we recognize that different denominations and individuals hold diverse views on baptism.
Highlights of Maddie's Story
A year ago, I would not have considered myself a Christian. I grew up in a non-religious home, I didn’t know any stories from the Bible. I never had people or communities to help disciple me – that was until veterinary school.
A month after my first CVMF meeting at school, I traveled with my CVMF group to Real Life Real Impact at UGA. I was still so new to the faith and there was so much I didn’t understand. At RLRI, the symbolism of baptism was explained, and I was asked if I had accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In that moment the fear of being new to Christianity disappeared. I could feel in my heart that I did believe; that I truly did accept Christ.

I was baptized by Dr. Danielle Mzyk, my faculty advisor, in a horse arena with a livestock water bucket shortly after I proclaimed my faith to those around me.
My love for veterinary medicine has developed a deeper meaning now. I see veterinary medicine as my God-given gift, as a way I can help people and even disciple them through treating their animals. I can see now that God was with me all along. I’m incredibly blessed to be able to pursue a career that gives me such purpose and to have found my faith through veterinary medicine.

Maddie’s story is an example of how CVM played a part to help integrate her faith and calling early in her career with the relationships built through the CVF groups and RLRI events. Donate today and join the growing CVM family in making a difference in the lives of veterinary students.
