Dr. Amy Delgado

Dr. Amy Delgado is a veterinary epidemiologist and Director of the Center for Epidemiology and Animal Health, part of USDA’s Veterinary Services. Her Center provides applied and innovative analyses to generate science-based solutions and information for decision making around complex national animal health issues. Dr. Delgado received a Bachelor´s and Master´s degree in animal science prior to receiving her DVM degree from Texas A&M University in 2006.  She received her PhD degree in epidemiology from Texas A&M University in 2011.   Dr. Delgado has always had a heart for helping people through animal health, leading her to work with groups all over the world in both professional and personal roles. Recently she has been working with partners in the Dominican Republic and Haiti to improve emergency response and address the African Swine Fever Outbreaks there. Before joining USDA, she and her family spent three years living in Costa Rica, where she worked with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture. She and her husband, Aminadab, founded a non-profit called Fields of Hope, which aims to create safe and accessible places to play in underserved communities (fofh.org).
