Dr. Al Stevens

Dr. Stevens graduated from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1979 and began working as a small animal practitioner in Baton Rouge, LA.  He grew up in a rural community in north central Louisiana and thought that large animal medicine was his forte but that all changed when he met and later married Susan, who just happened to be from Baton Rouge. Dr. Stevens grew a practice that included a large general practice, emergency practice and a specialty veterinary hospital all under the same roof.  With a staff of 14 veterinarians and a fantastic partner (Dr. Stephen Lee), he was truly blessed in practice. Dr. Stevens retired in 2019. He has been (and currently is) a Sunday School teacher for over 30 years, served as Deacon Chairman, President of a Christian School Board, President of the Baton Rouge Area Veterinary Medical Association, President of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, President of the LSU Veterinary Alumni Association and a program speaker at both the North American Veterinary Conference and the Western Veterinary Conference.  Dr. Stevens has been honored to have received the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Distinguished Alumni Award and the Louisiana Veterinarian of the Year Award.  He was an adjunct instructor of dentistry at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and served as the on-call veterinary dentist for the New Orleans Audubon Zoo and the Baton Rouge Zoo.  After 45 years of marriage, 2 married children and 2 wonderful grandsons, he can humbly say that success has been the progressive realization of the will of God in his life.
