Nicaragua (Equine Only)

This will be a new trip for us to a remote part of Nicaragua where the Gospel has not permeated yet. Our hosts, Pastor Oscar and Tamy Gaitan are seasoned CVM hosts. This is an EQUINE-ONLY trip. Join experienced trip leader, Dr. Justin High, and team members to grow your faith and engage in vet work that will be used to spread the Gospel and build on the current ministry of the hosts. Building relationships and ministering to others is a strong focus.

Dates: March 7-14, 2026

Local Partner: Pastor Oscar and Tamy Gaitan. Dr. Justin High is the trip leader.

Vet Work: This will be an Equine-Only trip. We will focus on the immediate needs of horses in a remote region of Nicaragua. Vaccinations, deworming, dentistry, castrations, general medicine, with a specific focus on educational programs for horse owners will be the priority.

Ministry Work: Part of the educational programs will be sharing our faith with horse owners, praying with them as possible while working, and activities with the kids as time allows. We will end each day with devotionals about the day's events. There will be opportunities to worship with believers either in churches or in homes. The veterinary work also provides opportunities to share the Gospel and build relationships to help the Gaitans' ministry efforts. Be prepared to share your testimony in various settings.

Number Needed: 3-4 LA/mixed animal (equine-specific is a must) DVMs, Vet Techs, and Vet Students who desire to focus on equine work after vet school and who have experience with horses. Non-vets/students will be limited because of travel and increasing the expenses due to the location of the mission.

Cost: $970 (not including airfare)Volunteers age 70+ will need to purchase their own insurance outside of CVM. For this reason, these volunteers will see a slight decrease in the CVM trip cost.

Additional Information: This will be to a remote area of Nicaragua in the Southern Autonomous Region, where no one has served in a very long time. There are many horses there – some will be ridden 4-5 hours to get to the camp.  Pastor Oscar and Tamy Gaitan are excited about the opportunity to open a new area to continued mission work for CVM and establish a new church in that region. This is an equine-only trip and will be a way to best assess the needs of that region so that future trips can support and educate the people of that region.  Based on interest, there will be Zoom meetings soon to discuss the trip and answer questions to best prepare everyone willing to serve in this new area of Nicaragua.
