Nicaragua

DVMs, vet techs, vet students, and non-vets are needed October 4-11, 2025 to travel with CVM as we help support our local partner in León, Nicaragua! Animal health clinics serve as one of the main vet outreaches for our local partner, El Ayudante. Join us in March to expand your faith and engage in vet work that will include small animal and possible cattle and horses. This is a fantastic ministry partner, but we need your help!

If you or someone else you know are available in March, read on if you can help serve with us! This would be a fantastic student group trip if you know of a vet student who will be on spring break during this time.

Please click "Express Interest" for more information.

Dates: October 4-11, 2025

Trip Leader: Dr. Nicole Richards

Local Partner: We will be working with El Ayudante in León, Nicaragua. You can check out more about them at https://eanicaragua.com.

Vet Work: Most of the work is small animal (primarily dogs), but there is some large animal work and will be in rural areas where many residents own livestock, primarily hogs, cattle, horses/donkeys, and poultry, although dogs are very prevalent. Rabies vaccinations are generally done by government clinics. Expect that once the message gets out that a veterinary team is in the community, several dozen residents will bring many animals to your group. It will be common to vaccinate and deworm several dozen dogs and conduct spays and neuters on a few more. Also, you may be asked to castrate pigs and treat cattle and hogs for various problems such as wounds, parasite infestations, or infections.

Ministry Work: There will be many opportunities to worship with believers either in churches or homes. Other ministry work may include Vacation Bible study in local schools, devotions with EA children in the orphanage, and sustainable ministries such as chickens, pigs, fruit trees, etc.

Volunteers Needed: Small animal/Large animal/mixed animal DVMs, Vet Students, Vet Techs, and Pre-Vets welcome! Non-vets, spouses, and children (age 12 and up) are also encouraged to attend.

Cost: $1,270 (airfare not included); All vet and pre-vet students will receive a $400 scholarship toward your trip costs if you are involved in your local CVF. Volunteers age 70+ will need to purchase their own insurance outside of CVM. For this reason, these volunteers will see a slight decrease in the CVM trip cost.
