Honduras
Travel with Dr. Casey and Cindy Mitchell on this mission trip to Olanchito, Honduras to partner with Pastor Dario Delarca! Depending on size, the larger team will split into three groups: a large animal team, small animal team and a ministry team. Pre-Vet and Vet students are encouraged to rotate through and experience all the groups. Local ministers will partner with us in praying and ministering to the community members as they wait for veterinary care.
Availability for non-vets and spouses to join this team as well, as there will be the chance to minister to local children in the villages! There is a possible chance to partner with and mentor Honduran vet students as well!
Trip Leader: Dr. Casey and Cindy Mitchell
Local Partner: Pastor Dario Delarca
Dates: December 27, 2025 - January 3, 2026 (encouraged to arrive on December 26)
Vet Work: Large and small animal work. Work can include vaccinations, parasite control, and sterilization surgeries dealing with cattle, horses, swine, goats, dogs, cats, rabbits, poultry.
Ministry Work: Assist local pastor, Pastor Dario, with outreach to villages around Olanchito through veterinary work; opportunities for evangelism at every site. Ministry opportunities to children in the communities as well!
Max Group Size: Max 20; at least 4-5 DVMs (at least 1 large animal) with the remainder being vet techs and vet students; Spouses and families are welcomed and encouraged to come as well.
Cost: $970 (does not include international airfare); All vet and pre-vet students will receive a $400 scholarship toward your trip costs if you are involved in your local CVF. Volunteers age 70+ will need to purchase their own insurance outside of CVM. For this reason, these volunteers will see a slight decrease in the CVM trip cost.
Additional Info: If you do not arrive on time, there will be extra costs for transportation from the airport. You will need to book your flight to arrive as close to noon as possible as we will be going to the mission house from the airport, and we do not want to drive at night. The host will be arriving on December 26, so please let us know if you would also like to arrive a day early. It will cost an additional $75.00 to do this.
REQUIREMENT TO TRAVEL: On June 29, 2025, it was announced that all foreign travelers entering Honduras from countries listed to have measles outbreaks, which includes the US and Canada, will need to present proof of having been vaccinated against measles or present a negative test for measles that was taken within 72 to 80 hours of arrival. The US Embassy also sent out a notification corroborating the new regulations. If you have not received the vaccine (usually as a child), cannot find your vaccine card (or can’t get it from your doctor), or do not want to receive the vaccine, you will need to show proof of a negative measles test 72 to 80 hours before your first flight. If you do not have the vaccine and want it, you need to get it at least 2 weeks before entering Honduras. If you received your MMR vaccine as a child or recently, just take your CDC card showing the date, etc. As always, CVM does not require any volunteers to receive any vaccine, but we do pass along requirements put in place by foreign governments to enter the country.
