Ecuador

Join experienced trip leader, Dr. Matthew Stachmus, on this exciting trip to Ecuador! See below for more details!

We have specific need for all DVMs, but need a large animal DVM to join the team. If not large animal, then a mixed-animal vet that feels comfortable working with horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, etc.

Dates: September 4-12, 2026

Local Partner: Carlene Piper with Baptist Mid-Missions

Trip Leader: Dr. Matt Stachmus

Vet Work: There will be a vaccination, deworming, & spay/neuter clinic in the host's home as a large animal team will simultaneously be performing ambulatory medicine in surrounding villages.

Ministry Work: The clinics will be used as a means of evangelistic outreach to the community.

Number Needed: 12-15 total; 1-3 large, small, or mixed practice Veterinarians, Vet Techs, and up to 8 Veterinary Students; Non-vets encouraged to attend if space allows.

Event Cost: $1,150 (airfare and some evening meals not included)Volunteers age 70+ will need to purchase their own insurance outside of CVM. For this reason, these volunteers will see a slight decrease in the CVM trip cost.

Additional Details: The weather will vary from 70-80 degrees in the valley of Santa Isabel to the high 40’s and low 50’s in the evenings in the mountains surrounding Cuenca. Bedding/food will be provided at the camp outside of Cuenca. The hotel accommodations in Santa Isabel are quite nice (bring modest bathing suit, if desired) & include bed & breakfast. Dinner can be purchased at the hotel restaurant for an additional cost of $9-12/person each night (not included in the trip cost).

D
etailed Schedule: Volunteers will fly internationally to Guayaquil on the 23rd evening and out of Guayaquil on the 31st. You will take a van to the beautiful city of Cuenca on the 24th. You will relax in the evening at the hotel and enjoy the pool and amenities. On Sunday you will have church and prepare for the next day of clinics. Clinic days will be Monday to Thursday from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM. You will be having evening services/outreach after clinics and daily devotionals led by individual team members in the AM at the hotel during breakfast.
On Friday you will pack up and inventory all the supplies. Then, you will go to Cuenca to spend the rest of the day Saturday to purchase souvenirs. On Saturday, you will leave from Cuenca (camp run by Baptist Mid-Mission) and travel to Guayaquil to fly home later Saturday.

On this trip, you will work with missionary Carlene Piper, whom has served the Lord in Ecuador for more than 30 years. The team will plan to work with the local Ecuadoran veterinary community as much as their schedules will allow.
