Meet Dr. Lee

Dr. Lee Myers graduated from the University of Georgia (UGA), College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984.  She joined a mixed animal practice for five years before transitioning to public practice. She joined the  Georgia Department of Agriculture in 1989 and the Commissioner of Agriculture appointed Dr. Lee as  State Veterinarian and Assistant Commissioner of the Animal Industry Division in 1995, a post she held  for 13 years.

In 2008, Dr. Lee transitioned to the U.S. Department of Agriculture APHIS Veterinary Services serving as the inaugural State-Federal Liaison for the National Veterinary Stockpile. In 2016, she was assigned to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy where she managed the Emergency Management Centre for Animal Health, the global center for emergency preparedness and response to transboundary animal diseases affecting FAO member countries. Her work supported animal health programs in Africa and Asia.

Dr. Lee is board certified in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and she received a Master’s in Public Health from Emory University.  She has demonstrated her leadership in many organizations, serving as President of the United States Animal Health Association, President of the American Association of Food Hygiene Veterinarians, AVMA Council on Education, and numerous leadership positions at the state and community levels.

Before moving to Europe, God called Dr. Lee and her husband, Dr. Billy Myers, to join CVM as Associates and mentor veterinary students and veterinarians in Europe. They continue to support and encourage students and professionals in Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria, with a current focus on developing disciples and Christian networks in Eastern Europe. They continue as advocates for the UGA CVF and have led many CVM short-term mission trips, notably to the Navajo and Apache Reservations.

The Myers are active members of the First Baptist Church in Monroe, Georgia where Dr. Lee initiated the church’s mission committee. For fun, Dr. Lee says there is nothing better than riding horses and enjoying life on the farm.
