Who I Am

Dr. J grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and attended Bucknell University where she studied math and French, graduating in 1990. A semester in France was Dr. J's first taste of a foreign culture and language, opening her eyes to life outside the US and giving her compassion for people who find themselves living far away from their home country. Her journey to veterinary school had its twists and turns, finally landing her at the University of Pennsylvania where she focused on small and large animal medicine and surgery. Dr. J's career began in a mixed practice in upstate NY, but she soon transitioned to large animal work in Vermont. Her favorite animals are cows and cats. After vet school, Dr. J discovered CVM at continuing education meetings, and signed up to be a volunteer in 2007. She made her first trip to Haiti, and since then has served with CVM in Uganda and South Asia. She has also been to Romania with her local church. While Dr. J was privileged to grow up in a Christian home, she believes God brought her to Vermont for her church there, so that she would be discipled and grow in her faith. Long-term missions has been on Dr. J's heart for a long time, but it wasn't until she was in her 25th year of practice that she said yes to volunteering for a year at ECHO in Florida. She hopes to make good use of the agricultural training from ECHO in her current place of ministry. It brings her joy to know she is a beloved, adopted daughter of the King, and she is delighted to be able to serve her Father and his growing family of redeemed children in Asia.

My Partner

Dr. J will be joining a Business-as-Mission endeavor, helping to launch a large-animal veterinary practice to provide quality care to the underserved small-scale farmers in the city and surrounding villages. The business will be run on Biblical principles, but will employ national veterinarians and veterinary technicians of varying faith backgrounds. As the practice becomes established, the hope is to have national veterinary students do their clinical rotations with us, giving opportunities for mentorship and sharing the hope of a life of freedom that Jesus offers to anyone who will come to him in faith.
