Who I Am

Jan and her husband Keith grew up in the rural community of Texhoma, Oklahoma. They were married right after Keith finished his undergraduate degree. Keith then went to Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After his graduation, he served two years with the Army. He then joined a mixed animal practice in Marlow, Oklahoma for the next seven years.

In 1986, Keith went on a short-term trip with CVM to Haiti and when he returned Jan knew that his life had been touched by the Haitian people and their beautiful country. In 1987, the Flanagan family responded to the call of the Lord to serve long-term in Haiti where they continued to serve for the next
26 years. In 2013 Keith passed away and left a great void in his family and in the community where he was serving but, through it all, Jan has continued to support and encourage the work that the Flanagans began as a family.

My Work

Jan has returned to the United States, where she continues to encourage and support the following special projects continuing in Haiti.

"Lespwa Lekol Pwofesyonel" Sewing School. The sewing school continues to enable women to learn a trade to be able to help support their families.  They have a better feeling of self-worth as they work to support themselves. Support is needed to pay salaries for the teachers, a watchman, and to purchase needed supplies for the school to help cut the cost for the students.

Dr. Keith Flanagan Memorial Clinic and Training. Each year since Keith's passing, Odilon Estime has planned animal clinics and training of local Vet Agents (many trained by Keith) in his memory. Support is needed to buy the needed veterinary medicines, food, and lodging for the Vet Agents.

Outreach Project for Pastor Cantave Blanc and Odilon Estimes' schools and church. Both of these men are leaders in their communities and strive to improve the quality of others' lives. It is a blessing to help with the outreach activities they coordinate to serve the communities and improve their schools.

My Partner

ODCM was co-founded by Odilon Estime in the community of Charye, Haiti. We first met Odilon when he worked in the Community Health Department at Hopital Albert Schweitzer. Keith worked with Odilon on several development projects in his area when they lived in the Artibonite Valley and Jan has continued that relationship. ODCM is fundamental to help with needed projects and training that will benefit the population in the LaChapel commune. Over the years CVM has had a presence in helping ODCM with Vet Agent Training, Agriculture Conferences, Medical Clinics, Land Conservation Project, and helping establish an elementary school for children that would not have an opportunity to attend school.
