An externship experience at Austin Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a hospital, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. We have an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the DVM’s, Technician and CRS staff, and clients.

Our externships range from two to four weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. This externship is designed for clinical year students. Our Hospital is family owned which means not only do we feel like a family it is those values we follow and protect. We have been serving our community for 47 years. 

You will… Work with CT scan, ultrasound, x-ray and endoscopy. Practice soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgery procedures. Learn business finance, business management and client relation skills. Interact with a strong team that is committed, fun and considered the best in Austin. Have a day filled full of client interaction, learning to develop relationships, solving complex cases, everyday challenges and experience many surgeries that most clinics do not attempt at their practices.

Housing is available. This is a paid externship - $1000/week

The practice owner/DVM supports and travels with CVM on missions. We support our candidates to find the right church, bible study and community. Dr Varga and his wife Abby can guide our candidates and involve them in their church and bible study!
