We are seeking an experienced Small Animal Urgent Care Veterinarian who desires to practice high-quality medicine in a supportive environment while helping lead and develop our growing urgent care program. The Small Animal Urgent Care Veterinarian will provide high-quality medical care for urgent and emergent cases that present outside of normal business hours. This individual will work collaboratively with our experienced veterinary team to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide variety of urgent care conditions while delivering exceptional client communication and patient care. The ideal candidate is an experienced clinician who enjoys problem-solving, works well under pressure, mentors support staff and younger veterinarians, and aligns with the mission and values of Michiana Veterinary Hospital.

Schedule: Full-Time Position • Urgent Care Hours: Tuesday-Friday 6:00pm-12:00am, Saturday and Sunday 3:00pm-9:00pm • Six shifts per week • Off Monday Scheduling flexibility may be available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

Required: • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Michigan • Minimum of three (3) years of small animal clinical experience • Strong diagnostic and medical case management skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team Preferred • Experience in emergency or urgent care medicine • Ultrasonography proficiency • Surgical experience appropriate for urgent care cases • Leadership and mentoring experience

Essential Responsibilities:

Patient Care • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat urgent and emergent small animal cases • Develop treatment plans based on patient needs and client goals • Perform urgent medical procedures and surgeries as appropriate • Provide pain management and supportive care • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records

Client Communication • Educate clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognoses, and follow-up care • Demonstrate empathy and professionalism during emotionally challenging situations • Build trust through clear and compassionate communication

Leadership & Team Development • Mentor veterinary technicians, assistants, and support staff • Serve as a positive role model for professional excellence • Help establish and refine urgent care protocols and standards • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement

Collaboration • Work closely with daytime veterinarians to ensure continuity of care • Coordinate referrals when specialty or emergency care is indicated • Participate in hospital initiatives and team meetings as appropriate
