Virgin Islands

DVMs and students with equine skills needed in the U.S. Virgin Islands! St. Croix does not currently have a horse veterinarian to do routine work yet, though there is a solid population of horses. They are mostly Thoroughbreds for a now non-functioning racetrack (although bush racing is always happening) and three pleasure riding stables. Vet work done on previous trips has included castrations, pregnancy checking, dentals, Caslicks (done or removal), vaccines, umbilical hernias, and hoof care.

The local partner has state of the art dental equipment that the team can use, along with handling equipment like ropes and twitches, hoof trimming equipment and one emasculator.

We are looking to fill two teams of 3 individuals, so reach out soon if you feel called to this trip!

Local Partner: Dr. Bethany Bradford, state vet for the Virgin Islands, and Dr. Tramaine Creighton. Church partner is the First Assembly of God Christiansted.

Trip leader: Dr. Tara Zentner

Vet Work: Equine work such as castrations, pregnancy checking, dentals, Caslicks, vaccines, umbilical hernias, and hoof care.

Ministry Work: Minister at the racetracks, horse rescues and at individual’s farms by sharing your testimony and the gospel message. Help encourage the local church and it's members. Previous teams have hosted a work day at the St. Croix Christian Academy School and held a movie night at the church for the community where the gospel message was presented afterward!
