Christian Veterinary Mission exists to challenge, empower, and facilitate veterinary professionals to use their veterinary skills to share the love of Christ through veterinary medicine. This relationship starts with students and continues after graduation.

A Missions apprenticeship is an opportunity for students feeling called to long-term missions to experience what it’s like. This summer, missions apprentice, Emerald Ford grew in trusting God and being flexible, as she started her time in Haiti but due to the political situation there ended in Senegal.

Some of Emerald’s reflections on her time:
When the situation in Haiti changed suddenly, I was sad to leave my new friends in Haiti and their country, but I continued to have an all-encompassing peace that yes, God had brought me to Haiti for a purpose, but now He had something to teach me in Senegal.

I frequently joke that when they told me to be flexible with my summer plans that I never thought that could mean changing countries! Yet underneath that, I take great comfort knowing that God was not caught by surprise in any of the difficulties that had happened or for those heartaches that were still to come.

One of the first nights in Senegal, we were invited to a prayer meeting. I had never seen so much singing and dancing at a prayer meeting before! While taking in the sounds of dozens of voices raised together in prayer and praise, it occurred to me that of the people in this circle it was very feasible that I have suffered the least for my decision to follow Jesus. I was surrounded by people who have given up everything, some even with threats on their lives, for following Jesus. The persecuted church was sitting right next to me, and they welcomed me without hesitation as their sister.

One day I asked God "Who do you love so much that You pulled me out of Haiti to bring me to Senegal?" The answer that was God loved ME that much.

Emerald is just one of several students we help send on an international apprenticeship each year. Your gift helps us continue to support these amazing students who are following God’s call.
