Dr. Dick and Kathy Vetter
Dr. Richard (Dick) Vetter graduated from WSU in 1975 and that is where and when Kathy met him, also a student at WSU in Animal Science. That Oct they were married and started their first vet clinic, a mixed animal practice, in Montesano, WA. Over the years Dick has owned and operated several practices, from full service in Montesano, WA, to an equine only practice in Tumalo, OR. Several years later, with 3 little kids in tow, Dick and Kathy headed back to WA and settled in Chehalis to be nearer to extended family. Dick had taken a job with the WSDA as a Washington State Area Veterinarian. This professional route was chosen as a means to have more time for the family. We started our equine dental practice in 1999 and soon after left the state for good. In 2003 we had a custom veterinary trailer built which is the one that we brought this weekend. By that time, the kids were out of the house and Dick and Kathy started travelling WA and OR doing equine dentistry only. Dr. Vetter’s passion is equine dentistry and his training has spanned the US and into England. Five years ago we bought a 10 acre ex-horse show barn in Buckley, WA with the idea to expand our equine only practice. As the economy was getting tighter we knew that we had to expand our services, not only into more equine, but into small animal. We took the double wide mobile home in the front of the property that had been a rental and refurbished it into a start up small animal practice. The development of a small animal clinic turned out to be a very good decision. Our family currently consists of 3 adult kids; Kristy who works with us as our equine assistant, Kerry is married and works at another vet clinic 90 miles away and Scott, a West Point graduate and Kiowa helicopter pilot that is stationed in New York at Fort Bragg. At “home” (which is our clinic), a 19# cat who owns the place, two mini burros, two mini horses, and 2 big horses that never get ridden only fed.
