Who We Are

The Janecke’s have been serving in Bolivia since January 2001. Prior to that, they lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin where Bill was in private Veterinary Practice for 13 years. Bill now serves with the GATHER Network working in Guarani and Quechua communities. Heidi works with Talita Cumi Children’s home. Holly, 21, is a student at Iowa State University studying Children and Family Services. David, 19, is serving with a Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation center near London, England.

Our Work

Bill works with the GATHER Network in poor indigenous communities were spiritual, political, and economic oppression, racism, dependency and climate change have created a prefect storm that has people paralyze by hopelessness and children suffering from malnutrition and disease.

In a process that integrates evangelism and discipleship with community based development, they are helping the community itself identify solutions and begin to work together in an organized way. The community gains hope and vision, and a development process is catalyzed in which community leaders understand they can address their physical, social and spiritual needs themselves. Bill and the GATHER team accompany the communities, providing training and encouragement and helping the families become the agents of their own change.

Talita Cumi is home to about 30 abandon, abused or orphaned children ranging in age from 6 to 16. “Talita Cumi” from Mark 5:41, means “Child arise!” It appropriately sums up the strength and spirit of confidence and restoration the kids find in this loving, Christ-centered environment. Heidi is a board member and active in fund raising projects for the home. “Tia (aunt) Heidi”, as the kids call her, is a daily witnesses of Christ’s love to these great kids.
