Who We Are

Tabby and Trent were both born and raised in Texas and attended Texas A&M Veterinary College where they met and were married in 1999. Shortly after graduation, the Coxes left Texas for California and lived and worked in the Bay Area. Their first year of practice in a new state away from “home” was important in beginning their new lives together and provided the setting for the challenges and opportunities that would eventuate in the unorthodox use of their profession to serve God in missions.

Tabby and Trent have committed their lives to Jesus Christ, to love Him and to learn how to move closer to Him each day. They desire to use their talents to make Christ’s Kingdom known to others, and to leverage their experience in mission to help others be more effective and fulfilled in their own kingdom endeavors.

Our Work

In August 2001, Tabby and Trent moved to Ethiopia to serve with SIM on a remote mission station in the southwest corner of the country among the Bunna people. During their time in Alduba, God grew the Coxes into a family of five, with the birth of Jack (2006), Lily (2009) and the adoption of Desta (2012). With the growth of the local church and the birth of an indigenous church planting movement among the Bunna, that eventually spread to neighboring language groups, and with the publishing of the New Testament in the Bunna tongue by members of the local mission team, God eventually closed this chapter of ministry for the Coxes in 2015 by calling them to the capital city of Addis Ababa to serve SIM in leadership: Tabby as Personnel Director, and Trent as the Country Director, positions they would serve in until June 2021.

After 20 years of labor, marked with loads of challenges which fostered years of personal growth, God called the Coxes to another task where they can use their skills and experience to bring people the good news of Jesus Christ. This season of ministry for the Coxes involves not just one country, but multiple nations on several continents. Through opportunities that they have gained in their many years in Ethiopia, they will be helping to lead their host organization Le Rucher, located in Cessy, France, to provide member care to other missionaries serving all of the world, to assist in community development in countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo, and to train Church Leaders in ethnic reconciliation to some of most needy and war-torn nations in Africa and beyond.
