COVID-19 Impact on CVM - Christian Veterinary Mission

COVID-19 Impact on CVM

Last Updated: March 24, 2020

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, yes and forever.” Heb 13:8

This verse comes to mind as I think of these changing times. The daily updates of the impact of COVID 19 on our lives are very real and so we by nature turn to find stability.

We turn to our faith, to favorite passages from His word. Maybe it is a hymn or worship song. We have the promise and charge of our theme verse this year.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9

Each day brings uncertainty, but we know that none of this taken Him by surprise, He is at work and His redemptive purpose will prevail. CVM is standing with you, Be Strong and Courageous!

Updates

For CVM we are seeking to live in that faith and trust and to be strong and courageous. We at the same time have sought to step into the changing world to seek how God would have us respond. Let me give you some updates so that you can be praying for and with us.

Long-Term Missions

About 50% of the CVM international staff have remained in their long term location of service during the COVID outbreak. For many of those that remained, day to day activities are often restricted by Government imposed quarantines. Half of the CVM staff came back to the USA early on anticipated leave or evacuated as the local conditions were not adequate for them to stay safe. Most of the International staff in the US plan to return to long term to service as soon as international travel and government restrictions are lifted. Many of our international staff who are displaced in the US continue to interact with their local partners over the internet by holding bible studies, teach classes, advising clients on animal care and studying local languages. Prayer and support for all these staffs during this turbulent time is something we ask you to continue to help CVM provide.

Short-Term Missions

Since March, CVM STM has seen 40 trip cancellations due to COVID-19, affecting over 200 of our short-term volunteers. As we move into our summer season, the busiest time of the year for short-term mission trips, and as we look forward into the next year, we continue to seek His guidance and wisdom. Please join us in praying for our in-country hosts and partners who are caring for their local communities and are adapting their ministries. Pray for our short-term volunteers and trip leaders as they explore ways to re-purpose their trips through donations of funds, food, and supplies and find new places to bring the light of Christ into the areas where they live.

  • If you’re concerned about the status of a future trip, please check with your trip leader for any updates.
  • If your trip has been canceled or your individual travel plans have changed due to COVID-19, please notify the STM office regarding appropriate follow up and paid trip costs.
  • If you have donors inquiring after the status of their donations in light of a trip cancellation, please have them contact the STM office directly.

Student Ministry

With school closures and all the related dynamics, there have been many emotions expressed in seeking the Lord at this time. The CVM US ministry staff has started a dialogue through a webinar-based Bible Study of Psalms 23 to find encouragement and hope. Pray for those who join.

Professional Ministry

This is a quieter time of year for professional meetings; however, some have postponed. We will continue to network and seek ways to engage with CVM members to help them walk through these days and consider what God is doing in their home area.

Fundraising

We are so grateful for those who continue to give faithfully so that we can continue ministry and outreach in these times of change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Join us in prayer and let us know how we can pray for you.
