Dr. Hott was born in Chicago, Grew up in Chicago Area, except for high school years which were spent in France. Attended undergrad college at Purdue where Karen and I met, Obtained B.Sc. in Microbiology. Got married after college. Worked on Ph.D. In Microbiology for 3 years, then transferred to DVM program at University of Illinois. Graduated with honors in May,1984.

Dr, Hott worked in mixed practice in Columbia City, IN 1984-86, then in mixed practice (mostly SA and EQ) in South Lyon, Michigan 1986-1995. Sold our practice to work full-time with CVM 1995-2003. Returned to private practice in Michigan 2003-Present. Owner and CEO of Colonial Veterinary Clinic in Plymouth, Michigan. Sold practice to Dr. Eunice Low (one of our CVM short-term workers) in August 2018 and retired to North Carolina.
Dr. Hott served as a CVM field worker in Nepal 1995-1998, training village animal health workers, and producing Nepali-language training materials. Returned home for furlough in 1998 but civil war prevented return to Nepal. Worked then as CVM’s first director of student outreach from 1998-2003. Responsible for student and CVF sponsor networking at the vet schools as well as organizing RL/RI weekends. Led or co-led several short term (shuttle) trips to Peru, Bolivia, Haiti (3x) Honduras (2x) and Nicaragua, most of them with vet students. I retired from CVM in 2003 to return to private veterinary practice in Michigan.
